Use this character counter to check a title, caption or message against each platform's length limit. Paste it once and see at a glance whether it fits Google, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube or an SMS, counted the way each of them counts. For page titles, the SERP preview tool shows exactly where Google cuts them, and the word counter handles longer text.
How to use the character counter
- Type or paste your text.
- Watch the bars and the character count: blue fits, amber is close, red is over the limit.
- Shorten the text until the platform you need is within its limit.
- Copy your final text into the app.
Tips for best results
- Put the most important words first: search results, notifications and previews cut text from the end.
- On X, every link counts as 23 characters, however long it is, so there is no need to shorten links just for the count.
- A Hindi SMS fits only 70 characters, not 160. Bulk SMS charges are per part, so a long Hindi message can cost three or four times more.

Frequently asked questions
Why does my Hindi tweet use more characters than I typed?
X counts each Unicode code point, and a Hindi syllable with a matra or halant is made of two or three of them. So “नमस्ते” shows as 3 visible characters but counts as 6 on X.
Why does an SMS with one Hindi word fit only 70 characters?
Normal SMS use a compact English alphabet that fits 160 characters. A single Hindi letter or emoji switches the whole message to Unicode, which fits 70. Long messages are split into parts of 153 or 67 characters.
Are spaces counted?
Yes, every platform counts spaces, so the bars include them. The “Without spaces” figure is for forms or assignments that ask for characters excluding spaces.
What is the best length for a Google title?
Around 50–60 characters, so it shows in full on most screens. Google cuts by pixel width, and wide letters like W take more room. Check the exact cut-off with our Google SERP Preview.
Is anything I type stored?
No. Everything is counted in your browser and nothing is saved or uploaded.
