English to Hindi typing lets you write Hindi with the normal English keyboard: type a word the way it sounds, press space, and it turns into Devanagari. A popup offers up to five spellings, so names and tricky words come out right. Nothing you type leaves your device.

How to do English to Hindi typing

  1. Type a word in English letters as it sounds, for example “bharat”.
  2. Press space or Enter. The word becomes भारत. Punctuation such as a comma or full stop converts it too.
  3. If the spelling is not what you wanted, pick another from the popup with the mouse, the arrow keys or the number keys 1–5.
  4. Made a mistake? Press Backspace right after a word to get the English letters back and edit them.
  5. Press Ctrl+G (or the हिंदी button) to type English words in between, then press it again to return to Hindi.
  6. Copy the text, or download it as a .txt file or a Word (.docx) file.

Tips for best results

  • Write long vowels twice: “aa” for ा, “ee” for ी, “oo” for ू. Capital letters give the hard sounds: T ट, D ड, N ण, Sh ष.
  • A full stop at the end of a Hindi sentence becomes the danda (।). Type “||” for ॥.
  • Common Hinglish spellings work as people write them in chats: “kya”, “nahi”, “accha”, “main” all give the right word.
  • Your draft is saved in this browser, so closing the tab by mistake does not lose your text. Clear removes it.
  • When you finish an essay or application, the Hindi word counter tells you how long it is; for typists, Unicode to Krutidev turns the text into Kruti Dev 010 for office templates.

Frequently asked questions

How does English to Hindi typing know which spelling I mean?

It first converts the sounds by rule (a phonetic Hindi keyboard), then checks the result against a list of common Hindi words. Known words are offered first, so “ram” gives राम before रम. You can always pick a different spelling, and the tool remembers your choice for next time.

Does it work without the internet or any app?

Yes. The conversion runs inside your browser, so after the page loads it keeps working offline. There is no Google Input Tools connection, no app to install and no keyboard to change in your phone settings.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Type with your normal English keyboard and tap space after each word. Turn off your keyboard's auto-correct if it changes Hinglish words before they convert. Tap a suggestion to choose it.

How do I type half letters like the स् in स्कूल?

Write the consonants together: “skool”, “pyaar” and “dost” join automatically. If a pair does not join, add ^ after the first letter, as in “s^kool”. Common conjuncts have their own spellings: ksh क्ष, tr त्र, gy ज्ञ, shr श्र.

Is the text Unicode? Will it work in Word, WhatsApp and Google Docs?

Yes. The output is standard Unicode Hindi (the same as the Mangal or Nirmala UI fonts), so you can paste it anywhere. If an office template needs the older Kruti Dev font, convert it with our Unicode to Kruti Dev tool.

Is what I type stored anywhere?

Only in your own browser, as an automatic draft so you do not lose work. It is never uploaded. Press Clear to delete the draft.
