This Hindi typing page is an online Hindi keyboard that needs no software: you type by sound in English letters and each word becomes Devanagari when you press space. It suits letters, school notes, office drafts and social posts, and keeps a draft while you work.

How to do Hindi typing online

  1. Click in the box and type a Hindi word by its sound, such as “vidyalaya”.
  2. Press space: it becomes विद्यालय. Keep typing the next word.
  3. Choose a different spelling from the popup when you need one (arrow keys and Enter, or 1–5).
  4. Use the A− / A+ buttons to make the text larger while you proofread.
  5. Copy the finished text or download it as .txt or as a Word document.

Tips for best results

  • Hindi typing practice: copy a paragraph from a newspaper by sound, then compare. You will learn the long vowels (aa, ee, oo) and the capital letters for ट ड ण within a day.
  • Names and places are often spelt in more than one way. Look at the popup: the first known word is usually the standard spelling.
  • For government typing tests that ask for Kruti Dev or Mangal, note that this page writes Unicode (Mangal-compatible). Convert it with Unicode to Krutidev if you need the Kruti Dev font.
  • Turn on Hindi digits if your document needs १२३ instead of 123.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as the Inscript or Remington Hindi keyboard?

No. Inscript and Remington map each key to a Hindi letter and take weeks to learn. This is a phonetic keyboard: you spell words by sound in English letters, which most people can do straight away.

Can I use it for a Hindi typing test?

It is good for writing and for practice, but official typing tests usually check Inscript or Remington layouts on their own software. Use this page to prepare text, learn spellings and check your speed in words.

Why did a word come out wrong?

Hinglish spelling varies, and some words can be written several ways. Press Backspace right after the word to get the English back, change a letter (for example aa for a long vowel), or choose another spelling from the popup.

Can I save my Hindi text as a Word file?

Yes. The .docx button saves a Word document with the text in a Hindi-capable font (Nirmala UI). It opens in Microsoft Word, LibreOffice and Google Docs.

Do I need to install a Hindi font?

No. Windows, macOS, Android and iPhone all include Unicode Hindi fonts, so the text shows correctly everywhere without installing anything.

How many words have I typed?

The word and character count is shown under the box. For a full breakdown with sentences, paragraphs and reading time, open the Hindi word counter.
