How to convert Krutidev to Unicode

  1. Open your Kruti Dev document in Word and copy the text (Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C).
  2. Paste it into the top box. It may look like English letters such as “Hkkjr ,d fo'kky ns'k gSA”.
  3. The Unicode Hindi appears below at once: भारत एक विशाल देश है।
  4. Copy it or download it as a .txt file, then paste it wherever you need Hindi.

Tips for best results

  • Copy only Kruti Dev text. English parts of the same document were typed in a different font and would be changed into Hindi letters by mistake; convert those paragraphs separately or leave them out.
  • After converting, count the result with the Hindi word counter, or keep editing it with English to Hindi typing.
  • Kruti Dev 010 to Mangal and Krutidev to Unicode mean the same: Mangal is a Unicode font.
  • Files from very old software sometimes use extra Kruti Dev symbols; the converter knows the common alternatives (for example à for ई), but proofread headings and names.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my Kruti Dev file show English letters on other computers?

Kruti Dev is not real Hindi text: it is English characters drawn as Hindi by one particular font. Without that font, people see the letters underneath. Unicode Hindi has no such problem, which is why converting is worth it.

Can I convert a whole Word document?

Yes. Copy all the Kruti Dev text, paste it here and copy the result back into Word. Then change the font to Nirmala UI or Mangal (any Unicode Hindi font) to keep it consistent.

Does it handle half letters and the short i correctly?

Yes. The short i matra is typed before its letter in Kruti Dev and the reph after it; the converter moves both to the Unicode order, including clusters such as स्थिति and कार्यक्रम.

Can I search and edit the Hindi after converting?

Yes. Unicode Hindi can be searched, spell-checked, translated and read aloud, none of which works with Kruti Dev text.

Is there a size limit?

No fixed limit. Long documents of many pages convert in a moment because everything runs in your browser, and the text is never uploaded.

How do I go the other way, from Unicode to Kruti Dev?

Use our Unicode to Krutidev converter, which writes Kruti Dev 010 text for templates that still need the old font.
