How to convert PDF to text

- Read the text in the box, marked page by page.
- Tap “Copy text” or “Download .txt”.
Tips for best results
- Unlock password-protected PDFs first; their text cannot be read without the password.
- Use “Download .txt” for long documents: the file opens in any notes app and can be searched easily.
- If the text comes out jumbled in a two-column layout, copy one column at a time from the result.
Frequently asked questions
Why does it say “No text found”?
The PDF is probably a scan or photos of pages, which contain only pictures of letters, not actual text. Getting text from those needs OCR (optical character recognition), which is coming to our Image to Text tool.
Why is the Hindi text garbled?
Some Hindi PDFs are made with old non-Unicode fonts such as Kruti Dev, where the letters are stored as English characters drawn with a Hindi-looking font. The text extracts as random-looking English letters. PDFs made with Unicode fonts like Mangal or Noto extract correctly.
Are tables and columns kept?
The words come out in reading order with line breaks, but table borders and column layout are not kept. For a table, you may need to tidy it in a spreadsheet after pasting.
Can I convert PDF to Word here?
Not with formatting. This gives plain text you can paste into Word or Google Docs and format there, which is often cleaner than automatic conversions anyway.
Is my PDF read on a server?
No. The text is read by pdf.js running in your browser. The document stays on your device.
