Make Photo Background White

Replace the background of your photo with plain white, automatically, on your phone.

Your files never leave your device

New background

The first time, your browser downloads the background-removal model (about 9 MB). After that it is cached and works offline.

Make photo background white for exam forms, passports and ID cards, which want a plain white or light background even though most photos are taken in a room. Upload a photo of yourself and the background is replaced automatically, without changing your face or clothes; the AI runs on your phone, so the photo is never uploaded. Then use the passport size photo maker or resize image to 20KB for your form.

How to make photo background white

  1. Choose how to change photo background: white, off-white, light blue, or transparent.
  2. Upload a photo of one person, facing the camera.
  3. Wait a few seconds while the background is found and replaced. The first time, the model takes a moment to download.
  4. Download the result, then resize it for your form with the Exam Photo Resizer or Passport Size Photo Maker.

Tips for best results

  • Stand a little away from the wall and face the light. Even light on your face gives a cleaner outline around hair and shoulders.
  • Wear clothes that contrast with your background in the original photo; a white shirt against a white wall is harder to separate.
  • Check the edges of your hair on the result. Fine flyaway hair can look slightly soft, which is normal for passport-style photos.
  • Change the background first, then crop and resize, so the final photo still meets the exact pixel and KB rules.

Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded to a server for the AI?

No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser once and runs on your own phone or computer. Your photo is processed there and never sent anywhere, which is why the first use takes a little longer.

Which background should I choose for exam forms?

White or off-white is accepted by almost every Indian exam and the passport office. Some forms say “light background”, where light blue is also fine. Check your notice; when in doubt, use white.

Why does the first photo take longer?

Your browser first downloads the background-removal model, about 9 MB. It is stored after that, so later photos are processed in a few seconds, even without internet.

Can it remove the background from product photos?

It is trained for people. Objects, animals and groups may come out with missing or extra parts. For a portrait of one person it gives the best results.

Will it change my face or skin colour?

No. Only the background is replaced; the pixels of your face, hair and clothes are kept from the original photo. Exam rules forbid edited faces, and this tool does not edit them.

Does it work on low-cost Android phones?

Yes, it runs on the phone's processor without needing a graphics chip. Expect 5–15 seconds per photo on older phones and 1–3 seconds on newer ones and laptops.
